About

Christchurch Quay sits on the northern bank of the River Stour, just a short stroll from Christchurch Priory gardens and the historic town centre. The riverside paths leading from Castle Street guide you past notable heritage sites, including Place Mill: a Grade II* listed watermill dating back to around 1100 AD. Today, Place Mill is open to the public as an art and exhibition space, offering a glimpse into the town’s medieval past.

The Quay is a lively hub for leisure and recreation. Visitors can hire rowing boats or motorboats, and from Easter to October, a regular ferry service runs across the river to Wick, providing easy access to riverside walks and viewpoints. The Quay also features family‑friendly activities such as mini‑golf and a traditional wishing well.

Across the water on the southern bank, you’ll find Tuckton Tea Gardens, along with paths that lead into Christchurch Wick, a peaceful nature reserve with links to Hengistbury Head. This area is ideal for gentle walks, wildlife spotting and enjoying views across the harbour.

The Quomps

The open green space known as the Quomps sits beside the Quay and is one of Christchurch’s most popular community areas. With its bandstand, riverside lawns and large recreation area, it regularly hosts many of the town’s festivals, concerts and outdoor events. On warm summer days, the Quomps is filled with families, walkers and groups enjoying the sunshine or following the riverside path from Tuckton Bridge into the town centre.

A highlight for younger visitors is the Splash Park, a dedicated children’s water play area that provides a fun and safe place to cool off during the summer months.
