About

Mudeford Quay sits at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour, just south of Mudeford village centre. It offers wide coastal views, a working harbour atmosphere and easy access to nearby beaches and nature spots.

The Quay comprises of The Haven House Inn, a number of historic former fishermen's cottages and a large waterside car park. Local fishing boats still operate from the harbour, and the Quay remains a popular base for sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and other water sports. An RNLI inshore lifeboat station is also located here. Families love the Quay for its relaxed atmosphere, with a small shop selling crabbing nets, buckets and bait—perfect for a classic Mudeford crabbing session.

Watersports equipment can be hired from nearby providers, and the Mudeford Ferry operates every 15 minutes during the warmer months, taking passengers across the small channel to Mudeford Sandbank and Hengistbury Head. The Sandbank is known for its golden beach, colourful beach huts and access to the wider nature reserve.

The historic Haven House buildings - also known as the Dutch Cottages - date back to 1697, making them the oldest surviving buildings in Mudeford. Today, they house a pub, café, restaurant and accommodation, offering a welcoming stop for visitors exploring the area.

From the Quay, it’s an easy stroll along Gundimore promenade to Avon Beach, a sandy, family‑friendly beach with cafés, restaurants and beach huts. Continuing further east brings you to Friars Cliff Beach, Steamer Point Nature Reserve, and the clifftop grounds of Highcliffe Castle.
